Woodlark still sings in Dolenci

Last Sunday, April 22nd, Goričko Nature park Public Institute and DOPPS- Birdlife Slovenia carried out guided tour named »Does woodlark still sings in Goričko?«. The tour was a part of the Gorička krajina project. In village Dolenci 28 participants got acquainted with typical farmland birds, such as the hoopoe, wryneck, black redstart, goldfinch and common stonechat.

During the tour, Gregor Domanjko from Goričko Nature park Public Institute, presented some conservation measures, planned to be carried out within the next months with an aim to improve habitat conditions for bats, birds and meadows. »We will for the woodlarks protection, which is becoming increasingly rare in Goričko with only 20 breeding pairs, conclude conservation agreements with land owners, where woodlark breeds. One of the potential areas are also Dolenci, where woodlark is often observed«, said Domanjko.

Participants had luck as the woodlark could be observed sitting on a pole and later even sang its typical song. Nature lovers were impressed by botanical rarities like meadow orchids and the shrubby rose daphne.
