Whats the condition of the meadows in Goričko?

Before the beginning with the meadow restoration within the Gorička krajina project, botanic experts from the Faculty of natural sciences and mathematics carried out the inventory of the meadow habitaty types. Between June and July experts examined the meadows. They determined the grassland habitat type and checked for the presence of the target plant species – great burnet (Sanguisorba officinalis), Devils-bit Scabious (Succisa pratensis), Canadian goldenrod (Solidago canadensis) and giant goldenrod (Solidago gigantea). Both goldenrod species are invasive alien species, so the data on theirs abundance is also important informaction before the restoration plan. The inventory was carried out in total of 475 parcels on 67,3 ha of meadows in 41 cadastrala zones. Based on results, spatial database was preprared.

The majority, 49 ha or 76 % of all meadows, were determined as a lowland hay meadowds (HT 6510). Dry meadows (HT 6210) presented 2 % of the meadows, while the wet molinia meadows occur on 5 % of meadows. Meadows are in different stages of overgrowth. With an aim to improve the conservation status of the three Natura 2000 grassland habitat types we will in the next three years restore 70 ha of meadows.
